I originally wrote this article in March of 2014 on my other blog The Wellness Zen Zone. It seems to be one of those timeless articles that should be shared every once in a while and this is one of those moments in time. Remember: Keep your dreams alive ♥
Like many women, I am a work in progress. Having said that, when I awoke at 5:30 a.m. this morning, I decided it was too early to get up and begin my workday and wanted to utilize this quiet time of the morning contemplating my life and my life’s purpose as I like to do at this time of day. This is the one time when I feel I can allow and indulge myself in what I call my ‘Zen time’ – It’s my moment in the day to reflect and meditate upon myself. It’s a delicious time to search for those golden nuggets of intuitive guidance because spirit is still so close. I will close my eyes and meditate for 5-10 minutes, or I will pull a Tarot card, or look at my numerology for the day or pull an Angel card. These are divinations that have always been a part of my life for the better part of 25 years that have assisted me with my daily life.
This morning I had a burning question about my life’s work in relationship to the book I am writing. So I decided to pull a card from John Holland’s deck, 101 Ways to Jump-Start your intuition. I pulled the Discovery card which gave the intuitive guidance to think of a question and then take a book and open it up randomly. Without looking, you take your finger and slide it down the page. Then you open your eyes and read the word or words where your finger landed to spur new ideas or feelings or an answer to a question. I have used this method many, many times over the years and I must say, it always gives me the answer I am looking for. As I said, my question was in relationship to the book I am currently writing and working on, so that card from John’s deck gave me the answer. Get a book and see what the guidance is in relationship to my question.
I immediately turned my head to my left toward my night stand, which is filled with many books, and the one that screamed out to me was a book I haven’t looked at in several years. I didn’t realize it, but it had fallen off my night stand, and a few days ago, I was looking for my reading glasses which had dropped behind my night stand. As I went in search of them, I found that particular book sitting there on the floor straight up. “Oh my goodness” I said out loud as I picked it up, gazed at the title and dusted it off. I put it back in its treasured place where I can see it daily and remind myself of what it means to me. The title of this book is Fearless Woman – Midlife Portraits by Nancy Alspaugh & Marilyn Kentz. Photographs by Mary Ann Halprin.
If you are a woman reading this, you must know that You Are A Fearless Woman and I would encourage you to get this book and read it. Basically, it’s a story about the blossoming and ripening of 50 women between the ages of 40 and 60. It’s 50 inspirational essays about women from all walks of life entering midlife and how they conquered their own lives embracing courageousness, power and determination. The book covers 50 women portraying their strength, their energy for life and their passion to pursue their dreams.
So I picked up this magical book that I hold so dear and close to my heart – Fearless Women. I closed my eyes and opened it to a page; then I slid my finger down the page; and then I looked at where my finger had landed. The page I picked, in answer to my question, was on the life of Ivana Chubbuck who is the personal acting coach to many Hollywood celebrities. This is what it said where my finger landed:
Life wasn’t always so successful or glamorous for this determined woman. She began as a struggling actress, and her hard-won success has been earned over the course of many years. “I am fifty-one years old, and I’ve lived a lot of life, loved a lot of people,” she says. “And I love that I am an accumulation of all those years.
The Message
Life is not easy and can be a long, difficult and winding road with a lot of speed bumps along the way. Success can take a while, but it eventually comes. For some, success comes earlier in life. For some, success comes later in life. I am a bone fide late bloomer as I’m going to be celebrating my 65th birthday in March. It is a milestone birthday, but I feel better than ever spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally. Regarding my book I am writing – the message I got was that it’s going to be the biggest success of my life. I am fearless and I am determined.
To my fearless woman community, I say to you:
Keep on persevering and working on your life goals. Stay on the path. You are bold. You are enlightened. You are magical. You are filled with grit and determination. You are A Fearless Woman and you can accomplish anything you truly desire or want.
